Beautification Committee

Overview

Also known as the Aesthetic Committee, this Committee was established in 1985 with the goal of beautifying our village. The core committee is composed of dedicated and knowledgeable volunteers from our village residents and employees. Our first goal was to erect planter boxes and decorations on the Grand Avenue Bridge. From there we established an annual Village Planting Day.

Regular Meetings

Meetings are held only when necessary to plan for an event.

Members

This board is open to all River Grove residents.

May 13th, 2023 is Village Planting Day

Held each year in May, Village Planting Day offers residents the opportunity to come out and plant flowers at the Grand Avenue bridge and other planter boxes we built along Grand Avenue, the Gazebo, our Village Hall complex, and our Veterans Memorials in front of the Police Station. This committee relies on donations to continue our efforts through an annual solicitation envelope that goes out with the June water bill to our residents, grants that may be available, and fundraisers.

All residents are welcome to attend! Volunteers will meet at Village Hall at 9:00 AM first before coordinating where to go and what to plant. All necessary hand tools, gloves, potting mix and flowers will be supplied by the Village.

Arbor Day, April 28, 2023

Every year on Arbor Day, the last Friday in April, the Beautification Committee hosts a tree-planting ceremony in town. We invite sixth-grade students from each school, a school band, and a distinguished speaker to the ceremony. We also host a birdhouse decorating contest.

This year's ceremony was Friday, April 28th, 10:00 AM at Thatcher Woods Playground.
