In a continuing effort to renew and reinvigorate our town, Mayor Guerin and Village Board members recently passed several legislative measures to deal with a pair of properties in town that have become local eyesores.
"It's unacceptable for blighted property to be part of such a great community," said Mayor Guerin. "Our neighbors deserve the best neighbors."
Located at 2525 Spruce Street and 8616 Palmer Street, the two properties had fallen into disrepair and had neighbors concerned about a wide range of safety issues. Under the direction of Mayor Guerin, Village officials stepped up efforts to meet the legal requirements in order to proceed with the demolition of these two properties, paving the way for even more development in our town.
Demolition of the Palmer Street property took place on May 17th while demolition of the Spruce Street property happened on May 22nd. Both lots will undergo several weeks of clean up and restoration. Now that the first step is completed, Village officials are focused on discussing the future of each lot with the current property owners.
"We are thrilled that we were finally able to remove two dilapidated and dangerous homes from our neighborhoods," said Trustee Lynn Bjorvik. "Eliminating these properties has an immediate positive impact on the entire neighborhood. No one wants to live next to a property that is in disrepair. Our administration has made a commitment to make improvements that will continue to make River Grove a great place to live."
